The traditional order for a wedding processional and recessional varies depending on cultural, religious, and personal preferences. However, here’s the general outline of the traditional order for a Christain or nondenominational religious wedding:
Processional
Officiant enters generally from the side
Groom enters and stands at the altar
Groomsmen enter one by one, followed by the best man
Bridesmaids enter one by one, followed by the maid/matron of honor
Flower girl and ring bearer — if there are any — enter next
Bride enters last, traditionally escorted by her father or another significant person
Recessional
The newlywed couple exits first, followed by the flower girl and ring bearer, if there are any
The maid/matron of honor and best man exit next
The bridesmaids and groomsmen exit couple by couple
Again, the order should be adjusted to suit your preferences or cultural traditions… in fact, we encourage you to mix it up!
The groomsmen and bridesmaids can walk in together. Or if your wedding party doesn’t fit these traditional gender roles, have your wedding party process in whatever order you want. Or everyone can dance in all at once from all different directions. The couple can walk in last together.
